Please not the meadows. The meadows is a green space for many people in the city, and a lot of it is fenced off and made inaccessible already during the festival. It's meant to be an open space in public ownership, for the public to enjoy.
Others sites, tho, yes lets.
That giant bit of land on the corner of New St and Calton road, for instance, has sat empty for years. Assuming it's not to stony for a camp site, that would be a brilliant location, not far from Royal Mile to. (And if its to stony for tents, could still be a cheap camper van park.)
Or that bit of land that No Fit State turned into a circus last year on the corner of Leith Walk and Shrub Place Lane? Bit further out but not far.
Good point - I said the Meadows as it is central and would be good for people to be able to walk to venues easily - your other suggestions sound good. Thanks for your comment.
It would be awful! The residents endure enough without letting people wreck the Meadows. However, the general idea is not without merit. Like James B said, there are other sites that might be more appropriate, although I can't think of any off the top of my head.
Looked at the link David and a good site although think it is too far out of town so there would need to be a 10 minute bus service almost round the clock to be attractive. Glad the campsite idea has sparked off a discussions though!
I suspect the Council won't be promoting it as a campsite after the protesters shut down RBS, fired molasses bombs at the windows and battled the police for control of the grounds. It certainly added a spark to the summer.

There was a campsite out near RBS in 2010, although that may not be what you have in mind Judy!
